In my English course book there is a story a real one about redundancy and how changes people's life. It is titled "Life changes", and it is about Zoe, an old lady who lived for her work. She was a successful PR consultant and life was going well. She had a great job, a beautiful flat and a busy social life of expensive restaurants and late-night clubs. Then, the unthinkable happened. One evening she received a text message telling her she was out of work. As she put "life was hell, the first two weeks were the most difficult to live through." She said "after everything I'd done for company, they fired me by a text! I was so angry and I just didn't feel like looking for another job. I hated everything about the city and my life. The tragedy started when Zoe received an invitation from an old schoolfriend, Kathy to come and stay with on the farm she had just bought with her Husband Huw. Zoe jumped at the chance to spend a weekend away from London, "the moment I arrived to Kathy's farm everything about my past life seemed superficial. When I asked Kathy if I could work for her, she refused to take me seriously at first. She told me how much farm hands get paid and she blushed with embarrassment." And now, ten months later, Zoe is still on the farm. Zoe said she never felt bored. She has been helping with lambing-watching a lamb being born is incredible, she says,' it's one of the most moving experience I've ever had. I could never go back to city life now. Redundancy is the best thing that has ever happened to me!!!" Here I can say I'm really surprised. She considers redundancy is the best thing has happened in her life. What could happen if I received a text message telling me that my company doesn't need my services anymore, I think everything in my life would collapse. I can't even imagine myself in such situation, unemployed, lost everything just by a text. In Libya we saw something similar to this happened with teachers. They suddenly found themselves without job, and they told them "we don't need you anymore." What do you think? What would happen if you received such text telling you 'you're redundant."?
