A six letter word

A six letter word is what I am.
A single word is all I can be.
Friend'.

Who could see the pain
A syllable could create?
Who knew its ability to frustrate?

I see the tears dwelling in you.
I hear the cries thundering within you.
I feel the sorrow burning inside you.

Yet, a hand I cannot offer.
An embrace I cannot extend.

For I am that six letter word.

So now I write these words,
With the pen of a devoted friend,
But with the heart of a lover.

If this is what is destined to be, then so be it.
I will not fight what I have already lost,
For I am that six letter word.
